Hypax 7205

Low VOC Corrosion Preventive Additive

Product description

Hypax 7205 is based on calcium soaps of oxidised wax. Hypax 7205 is a specially developed additive for use in formulating corrosion preventives. It is used to formulate hard or soft corrosive preventive films with reserve alkalinity, giving protection in acid atmospheres and in saline environments. Hypax 7205 can be formulated with low viscosity spindle oils and solvents to give a protective film, effective in temperatures as low as minus 45°C.

Typical analysis

Property Test Units Typical Analysis
Appearance Visual   Dark waxy grease
Total base number ASTM D2896 mg KOH/g 88
Melting point ASTM D127 °C 20-35

Application

Hypax 7205 can be blended with oil/solvent and other additives, to protect steel stored in areas (outside or undercover) with high humidity, salty atmospheres. The low VOC formulations produced can then be either dipped or sprayed. When diluted with solvent the deposited film is tough and resistant to outdoor environments. The addition of oil will result in a softer film. Typical use levels would be at up to 50% dependent on thickness of film required and application method.

Performance

A 5 micron film of Hypax 7205 will give upwards of 200 hours salt spray resistance (ASTM B117) and outstanding humidity resistance.

Packaging

Hypax 7205 is available in 170Kg steel drums or as required by the customer.
The recommended shelf life of this product is 2 years.
